Zik and Clinical Science Press Emerge Winners at Prof Francis Egbokhare Debate Competition

The Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan (UCJ’UI), hosted the finals of the Professor Francis Egbokhare Debate competition as part of its 5-in-1 event, held on October 11, 2025.

The event also featured the Global Campus Journalism Summit 2.0, Campulse Magazine launch, Famous Five Awards, and the 37th Induction ceremony.The debate competition consisted of hall and faculty rounds.

In the hall rounds, Independence Hall Press Organization and Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall Press Organization debated on the topic “Citizenship Journalism has done more harm than Good in the African Ecosystem.” Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall Press (Zik Press) supported the opposition, while Independence Hall Press supported the motion. Zik Press emerged winners with a score of 63.73, compared to Independence Hall Press’s 60.84.

In the faculty rounds, Clinical Science Press and Agriculture Press debated on “Should foreign-funded media houses in Africa be considered a threat to Genuine press freedom?” Clinical Science Press opposed the motion, while Agriculture Press supported it. Clinical Science Press won with a score of 74.174, outscoring Agriculture Press’s 60.54.

Adeyemo Peter from Clinical Science Press was adjudged the Best Speaker. The winners were judged on criteria including appearance, articulation, logicality of points, ability to counter opponents’ points, and time management.
