Every human being is created for a purpose, but if this fact is taken for granted, life becomes boring and unproductive. We are all tagged with various things to manifest in order to contribute our quota and resources to nature. The fact to be realized is that no one is created without a defined propose, therefore realizing this, knowing your purpose on earth and putting it to work should be our goal. Living is more than just existing or mere existence, you are not created to just be or pass on unnoticed, and you are made to make impact, even a greater one. There is something in you that no other person has got. That is why you have to be thankful to your creator.
The word ‘Purpose’ can simply means ‘THE WHY’. The why of something, that is, why something is in existence. Nothing exists without a purpose, all man made creations which are non-living things function alongside the reason they were being created for. The first self-discovery is knowing why you are in existence, why you are created, and what your purpose on earth is, what is it in you that you have to offer to the universe. Realizing and actualizing this sums up the first step. “If you don’t know where you are going, you will end up anywhere and if you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything.”
One thing is to know what you are created for, another is to determine whether you can fulfill your purpose. Knowing why you are on earth does not guarantee the fulfilment. You will need to develop yourself, your skills and talents along that line. You also need determination and passion to fulfilling what you are created for. The absence of these signifies you are trailing along a negative live. Determination gives you the drive to strive in order to thrive while passion directs your focus on the target – what you want to achieve per time. Each good success draws you closer to your place of fulfilment. As you take each step towards developing yourself in order to fulfill your purpose, you move nearer to your greener pasture.
Purpose is to be discovered but passion is not in you to be discovered, you have to create it and develop it. A purpose without passion is like a car without a petrol, it is as useless as the letter ‘p’ in the word ‘psychology’. Purpose ignited by passion makes it very well achievable as all resources will be used in actualizing such a purpose. According to Andrew Hewitt, “passion is more than a feeling, it is a deep feeling. You need to be passionate about what you need to do to bring you to fulfilment.” Creating this passion, you need to keep watch on these four ingredients; value, interest, skills and ambition.
VALUE
This has to do with your value system. What is your value system like? What are the things you major on? Do you prefer money to knowledge, understanding and their applications? Or you prefer sudden life fame of a short duration to life time of making impact and making yourself valuable? It is always profiting to work on being and not only on having because with what you are, you will have. You need to be well equipped with value so as to make yourself relevant to the society at any point in time. There will be a problem if your value system is faulty, because your value must align with your purpose.
INTEREST AND SKILLS
When your heart beats strongly for something, there is a passion to pursue it. Your interest must be on the things centered in what can bring you to the platform of fulfilment. What are the things that take your time? What intrigues you? Do you find it interesting to drift around with friends and engaged in an unfruitful gist? Oh! come on, we only have 24 hours in a day; you aren’t got all the time! It is your value system that determines your interest. When your value system and the rest are in line with what you want, then the passion to fulfilling will be in you. Your skills aid you to your purpose. Therefore, if you can know what stuff you are made of, you will have the drive to make it work for you. Thus, fulfilling your purpose.
AMBITION
An ambitious mind is a passionate mind. Dare to be ambitious; you will see passion being created inside of you. All of these help you to create the passion you need to fulfill your purpose. You should know that you do not deserve what you do not have passion for and fulfilling your purpose is not determined by your faith. Happiness comes from knowing where you are going, a man of purpose is a happy man as purpose elongates life. A man of purpose does not die anyhow. Knowing what you are made to do in life gives the knowledge of what you should be doing at every point in time.
If you do not know where you are going in life, the nearest bus stop will look exactly like your destination. You are not made to be doing everything or just anything. There is a ‘particular’ thing you are created for. Discover it, develop yourself in that light, and FULFIL IT!
