The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. Olufemi Adegbesan and other dignitaries were full of praises for recipients of the maiden edition of the Faculty’s Dean Prize and Award ceremony.

In his address at the event, held at Trenchard hall on Friday afternoon, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adebowale lauded recipients of the award for their consistent pursuit of academic excellence.

“It’s a privilege to be here this evening and there is no better place I’d rather be. We are here to celebrate scholars and these are the virtues that I hold dear,” the VC said.

“A program like this started in the Faculty of Science about two decades ago in 2001 during the Deanship of Prof. Lateef Aderinoye. Back then, we discovered that the award inspired others to strive to make the list.

“I want to congratulate all the awardees and their parents. I also want the Dean to help me identify the best three students because I want to give them a special award.”

Earlier in his address, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Adegbesan explained that the award ceremony was designed based on the premise of promoting academic excellence in the faculty.

He congratulated recipients of the prize, noting that “they are the best of bests in their departments and for being part of this historic event.”

“You should know that by virtue of this event, many students will be encouraged to strive to become the person with the highest CGPA.”

Speaking further, the Dean expressed gratitude to the donors who made it possible for the idea to come to life.

“I want to thank all the donors because when the idea was conceived we thought there was no fund. I also wish to commend the immense support I received from the University management. It gives me great joy to see this event happen,” the Dean was quoted saying by UCJUI.
