WHEN THE WISE GOVERNS…

“Do you not know, my son, with how little wisdom the world is governed?”

-Axel Oxenstierna

Good governance brings about a huge positive difference in every society. It is one of the determinants of the progress of a particular community. It is expedient to understand that good governance is significant for development. Governance stretches across all a wide range of environment, including the infinitesimal groups.

Looking at our immediate community; the body of philosophy students, we would construe that traits of terrible leadership has reduced the prestige of the association. The way this association has been governed these past years is subject to a lot of questions. Democracy is said to be the government of the people, by the people and for the people. The government of this administration is no longer by the people and for the people, it is against the people. The congress has virtually lost its power and does not have a say in the NAPS administration anymore. Our leaders have failed to be transparent. Just last session, there was a case of misappropriation of funds, and something similar to that is likely to happen with this administration. “People are not willing to be governed by those who do not speak their language.” How accountable are NAPS EXCOs to NAPSites?

The National Association of Philosophy Students is thirsty for good leadership. Leaders who would at all times be resourceful, creating access to information for NAPSites, leaders who would at all times realize that he/she cannot accomplish all tasks single-handedly and therefore delegates appropriately and most importantly, leaders who would carry NAPSites along, bearing in mind that the basic stuff of leadership is keeping together all parties, without sacrificing values and principles.

When the wise governs, he strategizes all the time, thinking ahead and trying all possible means to avoid problems, challenges and misunderstanding. A wise governor’s ultimate goal is to strive to be a good leader, taking into consideration the needs and desires of his followers. NAPS EXCOs should strive to make a positive change, giving themselves an insight into leadership skills and then extend these skills to the environment, building for us the student body we all envision.
