“WHEN I CAME INTO OFFICE, I DID NOT INHERIT ANYTHING”—SU GENERAL SECRETARY

HALEEM OLATUNJI

The Students’ Union General Secretary of the University of Ibadan, Mr. Agboola Oluwafemi, popularly called Boko, has said he inherited nothing on assuming office.

He made this known while reacting to question posited by some legislators, on the need to purchase ‘executive books, administrative report books, attendance books, students’ union official files’ among others, as included in his budget during the defense of the budget for his office at the sitting of the SRC on Saturday 3rdof September 2016.

The General Secretary had said the books were to enhance continuity of the plans by the Union generally. He lamented that he did not meet the report of some of his predecessors which could affect his knowledge of what had took place in the past.

“When I came into office, I did not inherit anything….My predecessor does not have a key to the office. I did not meet Karan’s file”, he said.

In his budget was also the purchase of a new laptop, which raised questions from legislators on why he should not get a desktop.

“We don’t have light all the time so I can always come to the office with my laptop. If you look at the budget for the secretariat, you will see that I proposed a desktop. But for the office of the General Secretary, I will prefer a laptop”, he replied.

The Finance Committee recommended that the Students’ Union Secretariat budget be suspended till the secretariat is completely renovated by the House Secretary.
