ELECTIONS IN 2015 WILL NOT HOLD IF…—GBADE LANA
Elections in 2015 will not hold if chibok girls are not found according to Gbade Lana.
The Oyo state honourable commissioner for information and orientation, Prince Gbade Lana,at a personality lecture organized by the Faculty of Social Sciences on Friday, 25 July said the 2015 general elections will not hold if the missing Chibok girls are not found.
However, he added that government would ensure the release of the girls before the election so that peace may reign.
AJIMOBI’S IMPEACHMENT NOTICE IS A RUMOUR
The Oyo state commissioner for information and orientation, Prince Gbade Lana after delivering his speech at a personality lecture held on Friday, 25 July said the news of GovernorAbiolaAjimobi’s impeachment is a rumour.
He said the rumour can be linked to the impeachment saga of some state governors in the country especiallyNyako and Al-Makura.Unlike the past administrations, the commissioner said the Ajimobi-led administration has a cordial relationship with the House of Assembly.
He further stated that the current administration needs the cooperation of everyone for the state to move forward.
INDIGENOUS FILMS NOW RULE NOLLYWOOD- TUNDE KELANI
The Managing Director, Mainframe productions, Mr TundeKelaniwhile delivering his lecture at the Distinguished Personality lecture held at Faculty of Arts on Wednesday, 23 July,said Indigenous films now ruleNollywood.
The Nollywood icon said that before 2005, Nigerians films made in English were more than our Indigenous language films however, from 2005 till date indigenous films have been on the increase.
He gave the statistical data of the approved films by National Film and video classifications board (NFVCB)
In 2004 – 2005; 2,194 films were approved from which 1,240 were in English, 535 in Yoruba, 368 in Hausa and 42 in Bini language while in 2010; 1114 films were approved of which 113 were made in English language, 582 (54%) in Yoruba, 394 (29%) in Hausa and 44 in Bini Language and in 2012- 2013 a total of 1,291 films approved were indigenous language films.
TUNDE KELANI CONDEMNS THE BAN ON HALF OF A YELLOW SUN
TundeKelani at the Faculty of Arts Distinguished Personality lecture, condemned the ban on the movie adapted from the book, half of a yellow sun written by NgoziChimamandaAdichie, also of the same name.
He mentioned however that the ban on the movie had been lifted.
PRODUCE SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS FILMMAKERS- TUNDE KELANI
While giving out his suggestions and recommendations to the Faculty of Arts at the Distinguished Personality lecture, The Opomulero films Director, Mr TundeKelaniurged the Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan to produce the next crop of socially conscious filmmakers.
He called for a curriculum review taking advantage of new trends in media technology. He also advised that members of the proposed review team should be people in the industry rather than those in the academics.
“Students should be equipped and encouraged to become job creators rather than job seekers on graduation” he added.
WHITNEY WINS ETISALAT CAR
A 400 level student of Botany departmentidentified as Whitney won a brand new car from Etisalat at the raffle draw session of theEtisalatcliq fest on Friday.Many other UI students also won different prizes.
At the novelty match session organised as part of the programme, team white which had players fromZik hall as the majority and team blue, witha majority of Mellanbites emerged first and second respectively.
TRIBUNAL DISMISSES HOPE’S PETITION
The students’ union election tribunal has dismissed the petition written by Mr Mustapha Olawunia.k.a Hope 14 as the tribunal upheld the election which produced the Students’ union president-elect, Huntersola.
The tribunal dismissed the petition written by Mr Mustapha Olawuniin which he alleged that there was electoral misconduct, some of which are; the messages said to have been sent by the AUCSF at the wrong time and the accusation that his opponent, Mr OdesolaOluwafemi, induced voters with money.
They declared that the allegations lack substantial proof.
ETISALAT BRINGS NIGERIA IDOL WINNER AND REMINISCE TO UI
The Etisalatcliq fest held on university of Ibadan campus on Thursday 24 July featured theNigerian Idol winner while on Friday, Reminisce was at the old UI stadium opposite the Students’ Union building to perform for Uites at the entertainment session of the cliq fest.
ZAHARAT KADIRI TAKES THE SECOND AT NCC ESSAY COMPETITON.
ZaharatKadiri ,a 500 level student of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, emerged second at the Nigerian Communications Commission essay competition.Theessay competitionfor Nigerian Undergraduates took place in November 2013 on the topic: The Effects of mobile Number Portability on Telecom Services and Usage in Nigeria.
The winners were awarded their prizes in July 2014.The first prize of N500, 000went to DasaoluOlawale, a 400l law student of UNILAG, while the second position to KadiriZaharat, UI with a prize of N300, 000 and third position to IfeanyiOkpala, 400 level Mechanical engineering, FUNAAB.
FACULTY OF TECHNOLOGY INDUCTS FRESH GRADUATES INTO PROFESSION
The Faculty of Technology, University of Ibadan has inducted its 2012/2013 graduates.
The induction which took place at the Faculty of Technology Large Lecture Theatre on Wednesday had in attendance; officials from the Nigerian Society of Engineers as well as some Principal officers of the University.
At the ceremony, the inductees were orientated about the ethics of the profession and they were advised to keep the University flag flying also to be worthy in learning and in character.

TRANSFORM SPIRITUAL INTELLIGENCE TO EMPIRICAL INTELLIGENCE
Professor O.B.C Nwolise has advised Nigeria to transform Strategic Spiritual Intelligence, SSI to human empirical intelligence to supress terrorism.
He said this while reacting to questions that arose from the paper he delivered on Saturday at the UCJ 2014 MusibauAdetunbi Forum on Constitutionality and Good Governance.
‘We need a minimum of 2 million jobs per year for the next 5-6 years if we really want to overcome the security challenges’ he said.
