UCJ AND OTHERS MOURN BAMIDELE ATURU
The Union of campus Journalists and all local press organisation on the campus of the University of Ibadan wiped off their individual press boards on Monday 14th July in honour of the union’s legal Adviser, Barrister Bamidele Aturu.
Barrister Aturu passed away on Wednesday, 9 July 2014.
HUNTERSOLA TO LEAD NEW ADMINISTRATION WITH CHIDINMA AS VICE
Odesola Oluwafemi Victor popularly called Huntersola, a 400 level student, department of Agricultural economics has emergedthe winner in the 2014 students’ union presidential race.
He defeated his strongest opponent, Olawuni Mustapha also known as Hope 14 with a vote margin of 76. Akpa Chidinma also beat her opponent Bimpe oyeneye wosilat to emerge as the vice-president elect.
The other six winners to complete the cabinet are;
Olawumi Oluwaseun E. also known as Emmyringer who won with a total vote of 2921 for the post of house secretary, Adelekan Aminat Ajoke securing the post of the Treasurer with a total vote of 2778, also Adeboye Babatunde popularly known as Karan became the General Secretary Elect with a total vote of 1687.
Adegoke Taiye Vincent, Ojutiku Oluwafemi and Kinder were returned unopposed for the posts of Public Relations officer (PRO), Sport secretary and Assistant General secretary of the union respectively.
KUTITES REJOICE OVER PRODUCING SECOND SU PRESIDENT AFTER RESCUCITATION
At about 12:43am on Sunday morning when the election results were released and Odesola Oluwafemi Victor, a Kutite, was declared winner, fellow kutites and supporters were out to celebrate with him with much excitement.
They moved from hall to hall to appreciate all those who voted for him although he was not allowed to enter into independence hall by the residents.
In a similar vein, Awoites also celebrated Chidinma as she would ylikewise be the second Awoite serving in the position of vice-president since the union was revived.
STORM DAMAGE WI-FI RECEPTOR – Dr Ehinola
The Kuti hall warden, Dr Ehinola said the storm has damaged the wi-fi receptor and he has written to Management Information Systems (MIS) for quick intervention.
He said this while answering the questions posed to him by the freshmen during the orientation week programme held on Thursday, 10th July about the malfunctioning of the hall’s Wi-fi. He added that they want to provide a permanent solution to avoid a recurrence of the problem and that they are hopeful that it will be attended to soonest.
He further said that the Wi-fi which was installed at the end of last session is to be used for free for the next one year “courtesy: the vice- chancellor” and it is the best in terms of connectivity and speed alongside Bello hall who share the broadband with Kuti.
He then advised Kutites never to waste time on the internet but to use it for good reasons.
LOW TURNOUT AS UI DECIDES
A total number of 5,905 were out to vote during the students’ union election despite the total population of accredited voters being over 13,000.
Obafemi Awolowo hall had the highest number with 844 voters, Queen Elizabeth II hall had the second highest number with 734 voters and Tafawa Balewa Hall had the lowest number with 23 voters.
TOT, JIDE AND OTHERSFOUND GUILTY EXCEPT DEFENCE MINISTER
The former executives of Nnmadi Azikiwe Hall who were charged for spending without recourse to the hall management were finally found guilty on Tuesday, 8 July at the Student Disciplinary Committee.
All except the defence minister who was found innocent of the offence were given strong reprimands.
CHIEF AKANDE TURNS 75
Chief Akande, the proprietor of Splash 105.5 FM celebrated his 75th birthday with his annual lecture which he started seven years ago.
The programme which held at Trenchard Hall, UI on Tuesday 8 July, featured a lecture titled; The Error in Terror: Corruption and children.
At the programme, an award of excellence was presented to Professor Francis Egbokhare for his immense contribution towards journalism and to splashfm in particular.
HALL WARDEN ADVISES FRESHMEN AS KUTI HALL HOLDS ORIENTATION WEEK
“Kuti hall has been producing good results. In 2009 and 2010, the best graduating student was from Kuti Hall. Recently, the best graduating student for last session, Mr Adewale Abdul Quadri with a CGPA of 6.8 was also from Kuti hall”, said the hall warden of the hall of great men, Dr Ehinola, as he advised the freshmen to use the golden opportunity and privilege of being in Kuti hall,
Dr Ehinola further said that Kuti hall will be sixty this year and it will hopefully be celebrated in grand style.
