COMMOTION AS ‘BELLITE’ DISRUPT CLASFON PROGRAMME
Sultan Bello Hall was on Tuesday evening between the hours of 8 and 9pm thrown into commotion as several occupants of the hall trooped out in numbers to protest the loud noise coming from the dome due to a programme organized by the Christian Law Students Fellowship of Nigeria (CLASFON), U.I chapter.
It was reported that the organizers of the programme which spanned between the hours of 6 and 9p.m employed SIX (6) massive speakers to project sound in what many perceive as a ‘small’ dome. The decibels of sound coming from the speakers however constituted a nuisance to the ears of many Bellites who either wanted to sleep, read or perform several other functions but were rather agitated by the noise coming from the dome.
One Bellite actually approached the organisers to express his grievance but as it seemed like his complaints were not being attended to, he proceeded to turn off the generating set with which they were powering their musical instruments.
This however led to a misunderstanding between this ‘unnamed’ Bellite and one of the CLASFON members who is perceived to be an executive in the Fellowship as to the motive behind turning off the generating set.
It was in the course of the argument that the attention of many Bellites around at that time was drawn to the scene and little by little more people started trooping out in their numbers to the scene with many of them praising the actions of this Bellite who went ahead to turn off the generating set against what they perceive as ‘injustice’ to occupants of the hall citing such not happening in other halls of residence.
Some members of CLASFON who also expressed their grievances cited the actions as unjust claiming that the approach of this ‘Bellite’ was inappropriate and unruly. Also some members of the hall also stated that the ‘Bellites’ were fighting what they termed as ‘injustice’ in a wrong manner as they felt those whom the blame should be accustomed to should be the Hall Management.
After several moments of ranting and arguments, calm was gradually restored to the hall thanks to some members of the hall who ensured that the gathering mob was quickly dispersed. There was however no form of violence. (StrictlyUI)
