WAR SONG

ogidigbo

Let me be the lead,

In this marathon for a degree.

Let me swim in front as the eja nla,

In this battle against corrupt sharks.

Let me be the drummer of this gangan

Whose tunes tell tales of the first and once best

Let Ogun take to my left, Sango to my right

And may the gods wearing ties, swimming in naira

Die in their greedy bath.

Let the oracle be troubled

For I have arrived at last

I, the eyes of the blind

The strength of the weak

The stuttering voice that will always quack.

Thou selfish gods, look deep through the windows to my soul

Do you see fear?

Can’t you see anger?

Can’t you see the truth which refused to die?

Ehue! One day when truths are no longer maimed

And weak voices suck strength from our united anger

That day we will truly chant

recte sapere fons.

  1. I am proud of you guys. I am happy to see ogidigbo here, after a decade of poetry. Sometimes in 2004 the poetry publishing on MHPO began a journey which has seen many beautiful poems composed and shared with readers of mhpo, and in deed the UI and beyond.

Ogidigbo was formerly called agidigbo, between 2004 and 2008, it was founded by myself, and passed on to Mr Dayo Adesina, who then passed the muse onto generations after him. My anthology ‘Running Splash’ is a collection of some of the poems that appeared on Ogidigbo when I anchored it.

The most enduring of all Ogidigbo published poems is that defiant piece ‘Our Warder Is Mad Again’ the attention generated was far reaching…..

Once again,I congratulate Mr Ajakaye, for this continued feat
