SPECIAL BANK FOR WOMEN
After the presentation of the report of the committee on Economy, the women at the national confab strongly advocated for a women’s bank to enable them have access to loans for improvement in their small and medium enterprise (SME).
Speaking on behalf of the women,Hajia Aishatu Isma’iI said the SMEs are the major contributors to the Nigerian economy, as they provide services in various areas.
“I want to suggest that either Peoples’ Bank should be resuscitated or a similar bank should be established to help the women who cannot go to the commercial banks to borrow money” she said.
SANUSI NO LONGER TO RULE FROM STATE HOUSE
On Friday, 13 June, 2014, Emir Muhammad Sanusi, the former CBN governor who changed his name after leading the Jummah prayer entered the ancient palace of Kano amidst tight security.
It was gathered that earlier in the day, the policemen who surrounded the palace preventing the new emir from entering vacated the place after the sultan and the Nigeria supreme council of Islamic affairs (NSCIA) delegation met President Jonathan to put every Issue concerning Sanusi behind the bars. The delegation also hopes to have a reconciliation meeting between the President and the Emir very Soon.

He said “his death has no doubt created a vacuum, we shall miss his frankness, honesty and patriotism. He was a rare gem.”
NMA ISSUES A 14 DAYS ULTIMATUM TO FG
Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has issued a letter jointly signed by its National president, Dr Kayode Obembe and the secretary-General, Dr Adewumi Alayaki to the secretary-general of the federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.
In the letter, NMA demanded four Deputy Chairmen, Medical Advisory Committee for teaching hospitals and three deputy chairmen for medical centres. The functions of the deputy chairmen were stated in the letter and a host of other issues ranging from the appointment of chief medical director in hospital and doctors salaries were also included in the letter.

The people’s Democratic Party gubernatorial candidate, Senator (Dr) Iyiola Omisore, has said during his rallies that the lost hope in good governance will be restored once he is voted in as the next leader of the state in the August Gubernatorial election.

The Niger state governor, Alhaji Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu was visited in his office on Friday, by the Director of Operations, Nigeria Identification Management Commission (NIMC), Abuja, Cecilica Yahya.
Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu who was the first governor to be enrolled in the on-going regi stration has urged Nigerians never to take the issue of national identity card with levity. He described the on-going registration as an avenue to know the quality of our education, its deficits and the remedy to be rendered for improvement.
UNILAG PRODUCES YOUNGEST AFRICAN PhD, YOUNG MEDICAL DOCTOR
At the Friday convocation held by university of Lagos, the school recorded two historic events as they produced; the youngest African PhD holder and the youngest medical graduate.
The young PhD holder already has his BSc and MSc from a university in the Central African Republic. Olwafemi Oluwadamilola, 24 years old, a graduate of electrical/electronic was overwhelmed as he received the highest academic qualification from unilag. Admonishing all other youth with his experience, he said he has remained focused despite many distractions.
ARMY SEIZE INEC BALLOT PAPERS IN EKITI
Members of The Nigerian Army deployed to monitor the June 21 governorship election in Ekiti State, on Thursday arrested a truck loaded with the independent electoral commission (INEC) ballot papers at an undisclosed location.
Briefing the press on the development in Ekiti on Thursday, the area commander, Brid-Gen Aliyu Mohmoh, also declared that anyone caught with a weapon will be brought down by his men.

SOUTH AFRICANS PROTEST OVER TOILET DEATH
South Africans on Wednesday expressed shock over the murder of two toddlers whose bodies were found in a township toilet, prompting angry protests from residents who looted shops and burned tires in the street.
Police were holding several people for questioning about the deaths of the girls, who were two and three years old and were discovered Tuesday in the Diepsloot area north of Johannesburg after being reported missing on the weekend.
In a separate incident, South African media reported that two other toddlers were found dead in Katlehong, east of Johannesburg. Police suspect they were poisoned.
LEADING KENYAN CLERIC SHOT DEAD
A Muslim cleric has been shot dead in Mombasa, the latest killing of a preacher in the Kenyan city. Sheikh Mohammed Idris, chairman of the Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya, was killed close to a mosque near his home by a group of gunmen. Reports say he had previously been threatened by radical youths and had said he feared for his life. He is the fourth prominent Muslim cleric to be shot dead in the city since 2012.
US JOINS ANGELINA JOLIE WAR ON RAPE SUMMIT IN LONDON
US Secretary of State John Kerry joined Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie and the British government in calling for action to end the use of rape as a weapon of war. Closing the world’s first global summit on sexual violence in conflict, Kerry echoed Jolie and British Foreign Secretary William Hague by demanding concrete steps to ensure those responsible for such crimes were punished, and the victims helped.
The four-day conference has received global attention due largely to the involvement of Jolie, special envoy of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), who joined forces with Hague in 2012 to tackle sexual violence in conflict. Recent shocking cases of violence against women, including the kidnap of 200 Nigerian girls and the rape and murder of two Indian girls, have also focused attention on the summit.
