Vox Pop On Students’ Expectations From The Electoral Activities

By Prisca Aniemeke

Since the ban on electoral activities has been lifted by the University, UCJ UI asks a few students about their expectations from the elections and the aspirants.

Name: Aderemi Moses

Department: History

The contestants are lackadaisical and are not campaigning enough, they also haven’t sold themselves enough to the student body.

I expect the usual stuff. Candidates that are running start to be nice, they start moving from place to place and we’ll see BCs everywhere. I feel like many times, they don’t get to focus on the things that really matter. Yes, campaigns are important but I feel like they don’t spend time to strategize and plan for the things that really matter and how they can be of help to the students.

Some people will vandalize properties all in the name of campaigning and that doesn’t even speak well of the candidates. Some candidates are already vandalizing school properties with their posters around SUB.

I’m expecting the candidates to have good teams and agendas and when they get into the position, they don’t give even half of that energy. It’s sad that this kind of character exists in our university. That’s the thing with politicians, they fail on their promises.

Thank you very much. Well my expectation concerning the UISU lift of ban is to do what every aspirant contesting for a post at the Union level should do, which is to start campaigning to every Uite in different halls, faculty and every Individual in school and also give reasons why he or she should vote. Lastly, to hope for the success during the election.

My expectations for the aspirants is for them to increase the effort they put into the campaign. I’ll also like it if the time for the election is extended because everything is quite clumsy as the aspirants don’t have enough time to prepare.

To be very honest, I really haven’t seen the hand of the SU implemented in any affairs of the students. With this new administration, I hope to see a change in the Students Union and a majority of students’ problems addressed. Regarding the elections, I feel like it is all happening so fast, as I hear that the elections are in less than a month. As it is, I don’t know half of the people contesting for posts, nor have I seen enough exposure and campaigns for these contestants.
