The final of the female category of the University of Ibadan Student Union Organized Interfaculty competitions held at the new UI Stadium on Thursday, 16th October 2025. The final matchup was between the Faculty of the Social Sciences and the Faculty of Science as both teams faced off in a fierce battle to determine who would be crowned champions of the UISU Interfaculty female category.
The Faculty of Social Science had earlier defeated the Faculty of Education in the semi-finals, while the Faculty of Science earned their place in the final by beating the Faculty of Technology.
On the pitch, the Faculty of Science girls donned purple jerseys, while the Faculty of Social Sciences wore a striking combination of orange and blue.
The 5-aside match featured 5 players from each of the two teams. For Science, it featured Temitope, Tamilore, Hikmat, Aliyah and Eniola while Social Science fielded Jumoke, Bolanle, Mitchelle, Mosunmole and Joladay.
From the onset, Faculty of science created early chances, almost going ahead via a freekick but Aliyah’s effort refused to translate into a goal. The Social Science girls also had their own opportunities as they saw chances to catch the faculty of sciences on the counter, but they also were unable to break the deadlock. Both teams were defensively solid and despite several attacking runs from both ends, the first half ended goalless.
The second half resumed at about 3:06pm with social science kicking off the attack which almost gave them the first goal of the match. However, Sciences’ defense stood resolute and successfully dispelled every threats. Eniola and Aliyah stood as bright stars for the Faculty of Science girls as Aliyah’s efforts in the final minutes of the second half narrowly missed target as the Social Science goalkeeper tipped the ball over the bar off the goalpost. Social sciences also earned a freekick, but the Sciences Goalkeeper made a crucial save, tipping the shot wide.
After 30 minutes of full time action with no goals, the game was dragged into extra time with Science scoring a goal in the 4th minute of extra time but the goal was ruled out for a foul on a social sciences player. Both teams fought hard through the extra time, but they could not find the back of the net as extra time again ended 0-0. This meant that the game had to be decided on penalties
.
Social Sciences missed their first penalty while Aliyah responded by scoring Sciences’ first. Both teams went on to miss their second penalties but social science faltered again on their third attempt which gave Faculty of science a 1-0 victory on penalties.
This dramatic win crowned the Faculty of Science girls as the champions of the female Inter Faculty football tournament after narrowly missing out on the trophy in the last edition. It was a memorable day for the girls from Science and a day they would live to remember for a long time.
