The University of Ibadan Students’ Representative Council (UI’SRC) has referred the Union’s Vice President, Olabisi Owadayo, to the Disciplinary Committee over procedural breaches in the execution of the 2025 Union Week.
This resolution was reached at the sixth emergency meeting of the Council held on Saturday, October 12, 2025, after extensive deliberations on the Union Week plans and accompanying budget.
According to the Council, the Vice President, in her capacity as Chairperson of the Union Week Committee, unilaterally finalised and publicised the Union Week details before the plans were presented for deliberation and approval by the Council. The Council observed that the first two days of the Union Week were executed without its prior approval, a deviation from constitutional procedure.
It was also noted that the Union Week budget was submitted late to the Finance Committee on October 5, 2025, placing the Council under undue pressure to deliberate within a limited timeframe. Consequently, the Council absolved the Students’ Union of all administrative and financial responsibility for any actions undertaken before official approval and emphasised that all future Union activities must strictly comply with constitutional requirements.
The Council further referred the Vice President to the Disciplinary Committee for investigation into procedural misconduct and unauthorised ticket price fixing before Council approval.
Additionally, the Vice President was mandated to submit a revised and properly documented plan reflecting the approved amendments, including the allocation of 40 dinner tickets reserved for SRC members.
Following deliberations, the Council adopted the amended Union Week schedule, which will be running from Monday, October 13 to Sunday, October 19, 2025, featuring Freebies Day, Health Day, Cultural Day, Sports Day, Jummat Service with UI’s Got Talent and Movie Night, Tech Conference, and the Thanksgiving, Dinner & Awards Night
In addition, the Council revised the Union Week budget, approving notable reductions in two major areas. The Tech Conference budget was reduced to ₦999,050, while the Health Day budget was reviewed downward to ₦224,550.
The adjustment to the Health Day budget followed deductions for materials such as cotton boards and other medical items that would now be obtained through partnerships. The Council noted that such materials are typically provided at no cost and will be supervised by the Project Monitoring Committee (PMC). It also directed that all required partnerships must be secured on or before Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
