Covenant Odedele, one of the presidential candidates of the ongoing Students’ Union election has described the conduct of the election as free and peaceful.
Covenant made the statement after he had cast his vote, stating that the election has been “very well conducted” and “seamless so far”.
Speaking on the disorderliness that broke out between Independent and Azkiwe halls, He stated that it was a minor issue that has been addressed.
“Although there was noise around Indy-Zik gate, but it was just a minor issue and the tension has been douse, even before the security officials came around.”
He called for a seamless physical voting procedure for those who are facing difficulties with the accreditation process at the designated places.
“I am also hoping that the provision for the physical vote for those having issues with the online vote will also be seamless as well. I know that there is a provision for people that cannot vote online to vote at physical booths, because one of the things that discourages voters is the difficulties surrounding the process. So, I believe that the physical vote will be seamless.”
Responding to the allegations on some of his supporters campaining in Halls of residence, he said that people are only offering assistance to people with technical issues. Adding that there is no member of his campaing team engaging in campaining during the course of the election.
“I don’t know of any campaining managers campaining for me. I only that people are in different places casting their votes. All I know is that people are encouraging and supporting others who need technical support for the voting. And I can assure you that nobody from my campaing team is forcing anybody.
Nobody can force anybody to vote because it is your device and nobody can outrightly coerce you to make a decision. People are only mobilising for those that have issues with accreditation to go for the physical booths. That is the only case you see people mobilising around, people are voting freely without any challenge or confrontation.”
However, when approached for comment on the conduct of the election, Oluwole Joy also known as Sanjay, declined to speak with the press.
