UI Students To Face SDC Again Over Alleged Misconduct At May 13, 2024 Inauguration.

Two students of the University of Ibadan, Gbadegesin Olamide Iyanuoluwa from the Institute of African Studies and Aduwo Ayodele from the Department of History, have received a letter inviting them to appear before the Student Disciplinary Committee.

The letter, dated June 25, 2025, directs them to attend a meeting scheduled for June 30, 2025, at 9:30am, in the Conference Room of the Student Affairs Division.

According to the internal memorandum signed by Deputy Registrar (Students), S.O. Oyewumi, the students are accused of jointly committing an offence related to misconduct, specifically insubordination/unruly behavior, which allegedly involved obstructing the swearing-in ceremony for the 2023/2024 Newly Elected Executives of the Students Union.

“The meeting is a continuation of the investigations on the allegation of misconduct bothering on insubordination/unruly behaviour to witt obstruction of the swearing-in ceremony for the 2023/2024 Newly Elected Executives of The Students Union, by you and two other students.” It read.

Aduwo Ayodele, Olamide Gbadegeshin, and Nice Linus had on May 13th 2024, protested against hike in tuition fees during the inauguration of the Aweda-led executive council.

Following their protest, the students had received a query letter on May 26th 2024, followed by another letter on the 25th of June 2024, inviting them to appear in front of an SD panel for questioning.

Their first appearance at the Student Disciplinary Committee as regards their alleged misconduct has been their only one until this point.

Notably, although three students are alleged to have been involved in the incident, only Mode Gbadegesin and Aduwo Ayodele have received the invitation as of the time of this report.

The students are expected to appear before the Committee, which will continue its investigation into the allegations.

According to the letters, failure to honor the invitation may result in disciplinary action. The University has emphasized the importance of proper attire during the meeting.

“Please note that you must be properly dressed when you appear before Student Disciplinary Committee. Failure to honour this invitation may earn you disciplinary action.” The letter stated.
