The University of Ibadan Students’ Representative Council (UI’SRC) had, at press time, adjourned its 8th Emergency Plenary Sitting due to the inability to meet a quorum after a short period of recess.
The emergency meeting, which was slated to start by 10 am, started at 11:56 am. And, by 4 pm, the Disciplinary Committee Report had been presented and deliberated along with the state of the union report, before the council went for a short recess. Then, by 4:50 pm, the meeting resumed. However, upon resumption from the recess, the Honourables available were not able to form a quorum to continue the meeting, which eventually led to a motion to adjourn the emergency meeting.
Due to this, it is of note that the council was not able to attend to other agendas such as to presentation of the Project Monitoring Committee Report and the Union Week Report, which also included both the Parliamentary Visit and the Finance Committee report. Also, the passage of certain bills (first and second reading) such as Climate Change Bill, Audit Bill, and Standing Order Review Bill. All these will now be carried over into any next sitting that will be held.
In addition, the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Shoge Quadri Olaoluwa noted that the Council will still have two more emergency meetings before the academic session runs out.
