UI Set for Inter-Faculty Games as 18 Faculties Confirm Participation

The 2025 University of Ibadan Inter-Faculty Games are in top gear following the inter-faculty fixtures held at the SRC Chamber under the supervision of the Sports Secretary, Victor Kolawole on October 1st, 2025.

Eighteen faculties have confirmed participation, with 8 sporting activities scheduled, including football, athletics, basketball, table tennis, volleyball, chess, snooker, and scrabble.

In athletics, events such as the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and 4×100 relay will be featured. Each faculty is to present two male and two female athletes for the sprints, one each for the 800m, and four representatives for the relays. All athletics events will take place in a single day.

For football, male teams will feature 20 players each, plus two coaches, with matches to be played at the SUB pitch. Female football will adopt a five-a-side format, hosted at the newly constructed San Siro pitch. A knockout format will reduce the 18 male female teams to nine, before group stages comprising 3 teams each. Winners of each group, as well as the best-losing team will progress to the semi-final stages. Faculties absent from fixtures will forfeit games via walkover.

Other sports include basketball (3×3 half-court), chess (two males and two females per faculty), snooker (two players regardless of gender), volleyball (ten males, and 10 females per faculty) and table tennis (two singles players each for male and female).

The draw placed faculties into two categories: those who reached the quarterfinals in the last edition—such as Education, Arts, BAMMSA, Veterinary Medicine, Social Sciences, Renewable Natural Resources, Agriculture, Computer Science, and Science—in Group A. Others, including Clinical Sciences, Economics, Technology, Public Health, Nursing, EDM, Pharmacy, Dentistry, and Law, were placed in Group B.

Postgraduate students are permitted to compete without restrictions, while students from the Distance Learning Centre remain ineligible. Dates and timelines for the games will be announced soon.
