At the Senate meeting held today(Monday), May 17th at Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan, members of the Senate have once again appointed Professor Adebola Babatunde Ekanola- a Professor of Philosophy- as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution.
He became re-elected after about 75minutes of heated debates among members of the Senate of which 151 members of the Senate voted for an extension of his tenure while 12 abstained from voting.
To enable free and fair electioneering process, the Acting VC and his Deputy, Professor Kayode Adebowale excused themselves from the Senate sitting while Professor Olayinka Omigbodun, Provost of the College of Medicine took over according to the institution’s traditions.
Recall that Prof. Ekanola was appointed as the Acting VC of the University of Ibadan 6 months ago when the process of appointment of VC became controversial.
His re-election will take effect from June 1st after confirmation by the Governing Council.
