The acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Ekanola, advised the matriculants to stay diligent, disciplined and dedicated to their studies as the institution formally admits 4,174 students, during the matriculation event on Tuesday March 16th.
Prof Ekanola’s words of advice to the matriculants at the virtual matriculation ceremony was similar to that of the speaker, Dr Boluwatife, who graduated from the College of Medicine as the second best in her class.
In a statement uploaded by Sunday Saanu, Media Assistant to the VC on his Facebook Timeline, Prof Ekanola told the matriculants that the pandemic has forced the University to adopt the online lecturing. He stated that “the University treasures the lives of the students and will therefore not want to take chances, hence, all our activities this semester will be online”.
“None of our students have reason to be on campus. Stay at home and ensure you observe all the Covid-19 protocols. This virus is real. Please, wherever you are, make sure you stay safe. We really value your lives”, the VC stated.
Also, he advised the students to stay away from cultism and other unethical behaviours as the University will tolerate none of the actions. He told them to stay focused as the “visa between matriculation and graduation are hard work, dedication, discipline, focus as well as knowing the purpose of coming to the University”.
In her matriculation lecture, the young scholar, Dr Boluwatife, gave out some tips which will help the matriculants to stay focused on the University. She used herself as an example of being frightened when she was matriculated in 2013 which was eight years ago, however, she was able to see the greatness in herself when she got her acts together.
The speaker was given a plaque of honor which was presented by the University’s librarian, Dr Helen Komolafe Opadejo.
Mrs Olubummi Faluyi, the Registrar of the Institution, admonished the students to be of good conduct and obey the school rules and regulations of the Institution while administering the oath. She further stated that the students would sign the matriculation register in second semester when school resumed physically.
