ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS  ZIK HALL CONSTRUCTS NEW ZIK RIVER BRIDGE  SU WEEK SET TO COMMENCE THE NEWS IN FULL DEAN’S CUP TO START THIS WEEK The Annual Faculty of Technology’s Dean’s Cup which was supposed to kick off last week would now be commencing on Monday, 24th of November, 2014 with the departments ofMechanical Engineering and Food Technology coming up against each other in the battle of machines and food, taking place at Awo Stadium by 10am. The second match would be between Industrial and Production Engineering and Agricultural and Environmental Engineering by 11am, while the third match would be between Civil Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering by 12 noon. Other fixtures are listed below; Match day 2: Pet vs Food, 7am Match day 3: Pet vs Mech, 7am Indus vs Civil, 9am Indus vs Elect, 9am Elect vs Agric, 11am Civil vs Agric, 11am Match day 4: Rest Match day 5: 1st A vs 2nd B 1st B vs 2nd A Match day 6: Final Group A Group B Pet. PROFESSOR OFI DELIVERS REMINISCENCE LECTURE One of the pioneering fathers of the department of Mechancal Engineering and the Faculty of Technology, one-time Head of the department of Mechanical Engineering, one-time Dean of the Faculty of Technology, erstwhile Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration of the University of Ibadan, Professor Olusoji Ofi was honoured by the department of Mechanical Engineering on Thursday, 20th of November, 2014. ProfessorOlusoji Ofi retired in the year 2007 and his valedictory lecture is coming seven years after his retirement. The event comprised of different academic individuals from different academic fields. Professor Bamiro also graced the occasion and a host of other respectable people in the engineering academic world. A pre-lecture titled, “Mechanical Engineering Program at the University of Ibadan (1976-1980)”, was delivered by Professor J. A. Olorunmaiye, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, University of Ilorin, and an alumnus of the department. Professor Ofi then delivered the special reminiscence lecture titled, “Technology in Ibadan, Nigeria: Revisiting the Original Design Concepts”. The anchors of the event were Dr. Diji of the department of Mechanical Engineering and Dr. Adewole, Sub-dean Undergraduate of the Faculty of Technology. CENTRAL L&D SOCIETY PRESENTS JAW WAR FINALS The rebirth of the University of Ibadan Central Literary and Debating speaking Society’s event public otherwise known as Jaw war has reached its final stage. This stage would witness Faculty of Technology come up against Faculty of Arts in the Faculty category with Bello and Tedder halls of residence squaring up against each other in the Halls of residence category. The debate competition has continued to display the public speaking talents and prowess among students of the University of Ibadan. The preliminaries took place at the First Bank building, Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry. The final of the debate contest would take place at Trenchard Hall, on Wednesday, 26th of November, 2014 by 11am and has been themed “21st Century Unionism: Reviewing the past and previewing the Future as a Tool for National DevelopmentNIGMUNS UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN HOLDS SYMPOSIUM Nigerian Model United Nations Society, University of Ibadan on Thursday, 20th of November, 2014, organized a symposium in commemoration of the 2014 United Nations International Year at Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan. The program featured personality lectures, intergenerational dialogues, presentation of awards to Millennium Development Goals Ambassadors and an Induction ceremony for new inductees. SEAN TIZZLE, OWEN GEE STORM UI Stars of the Nigerian Entertainment Industry stormed Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan in a show organized by Hadunni Entertainment and sponsored by Promasidor, makers of Cowbell coffee. The program, “MAKING INCREDIBLE NON EXISTING DIFFERENCE POSITIVE SUMMITS”, otherwise known as MINDS witnessed rave of the moment, Sean Tizzle thrill the crowd with his hit tracks, the program also saw ace comedian, Owen Gee stimulate the crowd by cracking their ribs with his funny jokes. Other artists and comedians showed the crowd the stuff they were made of by putting up out-of-this-world performances. The high point of the evening was when Sean Tizzle gave out almost all he hadon him, his chains, his studs, his wrist watches, his belt and even his T-shirt, the crowd really got frenzy at this point. There was also a raffle draw that saw people win an I-pad, a laptop, a one year scholarship and a refrigerator, another moment that got the delighted the crowd. UI CONDUCTS MSc. ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS An entrance examination for Postgraduate applicants was conducted by the University on Saturday, 22nd of November, 2014 in various Faculties. The examination which was said to be a test of one’s Use of English was described by some of the participants as difficult and demanding. Results of the entrance examination would be out on the University’s website in due time. ZIK HALL CONSTRUCTS NEW ZIK RIVER BRIDGE On Saturday, 22nd of November, 2014, Zikites came out in their large numbers to construct the dilapidated Zik river bridge. Zikites in their selfless and dynamic nature rolled out the drums and brought out the tools and materials needed to perform the job perfectly. Zikites have onceagain displayed their tradition of excellence and valuable community service. SU WEEK SET TO COMMENCE The Student Union of the University of Ibadan would be starting her annual week on Monday, 24th of November, 2014 with a colourful and action-packed carnival to mark the beginning of the week and would flag off the much awaited and anticipated weeklong event in grand style. The awareness rally has already been conducted, showing why this year’s event would not just be a one of, but a memorable experience. The carnival’s take off point is at SUB and would start by 12noon. There would also be an “Asun” night that would be taking place at the Gamaliel Onosode Park, and it would be starting by 5pm. Other programs during the week include; the VC’s marathon, a personality lecture, Jaw war finals, Ivory king and Queen, cooking competition and Campus blast.
