The University of Ibadan football team is set to continue their impressive run in the ongoing MonieBall Five-A-Side Football Tournament as they head to Calabar today for the semi-final stage of the competition.
UI will go head-to-head with the University of Calabar on Thursday, in what promises to be a thrilling contest between two strong student teams.
In their previous outing at the Awo Stadium, the University of Ibadan lost narrowly to the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNNAB) by two goals to one. Despite the loss, both UI and FUNNAB secured qualification for the semi-final stage following their strong performances in earlier rounds. FUNNAB shall go against University of Ilorin in the last 4.
The tournament, which has brought together top university football teams from across Nigeria, will climax with the final to be held at the University of Lagos, where the winning team will walk away with a ₦5 million cash prize.
With renewed determination and lessons from their last encounter, the UI football team will be looking to redeem themselves and book a spot in the grand finale of the prestigious competition.
