UI Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Aderonke Baiyeroju Retires at 70

Professor Aderonke Mojisola Baiyeroju, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Ibadan (UI), has retired from active service at the age of 70.

Her retirement took effect on August 13, 2025.Professor Baiyeroju assumed the role of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) on November 9, 2021, and served in the position until her retirement.

Prior to her administrative appointment, she was a Professor of Ophthalmology at the UI College of Medicine and an Honorary Consultant at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, where she trained medical students and resident doctors.

In addition to her academic achievements, Professor Baiyeroju was a notable athlete during her undergraduate years, winning a gold medal in the high jump at the 1977 ECOWAS Games.

The university community and colleagues have hailed her retirement as the end of an era, celebrating her unwavering commitment to education, healthcare, and leadership.

As she steps down, her legacy of service, mentorship, and contributions to ophthalmology and academic administration will continue to inspire generations.

The University of Ibadan has yet to announce her successor.
