UI CAMPUS JOURNALIST RANKS AMONG TOP FEW IN POETRY CONTEST

A member of the Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan, Mr. Agbaakin Oluwatoyosi Jeremiah, has been ranked as the second-runner up in the 2016 Brigite Poirson Poetry Contest(BBPC).

Mr. Agbaakin, a member of Sultan Bello Hall Press Organization, participated in the BBPC May, 2016 contest themed “Healing with Words” and clinched the second runner-up position with his poem “The Herb Bard”.

The contest was “in honour of those facing the threat of cancer and other diseases”. Since it is believed that words,particularly in poetic forms bring about instantaneous and dramatic changes in the minds of those who read them.

While Mr. Agbaakin was the second runner-up, one Mr. Mbagu Valentine and another Mr. Chinazom Otubelu, from FUTO were ranked as first runner-up and winner respectively.

The 400 level student of the Faculty of Law, University of Ibadan and other co-winners will be granted rewards ranging from the publication of their poems in the annual BBPC 2016 anthology, receiving a free copy of the BBPC 2016 anthology, automatic entry for the Albert Jungers Poetry Prize (AJPP) 2016 and the awarding of certificates by the organizers of the monthly writing contest amongst other prizes.
