Kunle Adebajo, the Investigations Editor and Head of the Fact-checking Desk at HumAngle Media has won the Africa Check’s fact-checking award.
In the award ceremony following a two-day African Fact-Checkers Summit held in Nairobi, Kenya, on November, 9-10, 2022, Adebajo was named the ‘Best African Fact-checker as a Working Journalist’ and the winner of this award category by Africa Check, the first independent non-profit fact-checking organisation in the continent.
The two other awards given during the ceremony are ‘Best Fact-Check by a Student Journalist’ and Best Fact-Check by a Professional Fact-Check’. According to Africa Check, the six entries were selected from over 200 applications, three as winners and the other three as runner-ups.
Adébàjò served as UCJ UI’s Managing Editor and Editor-in-Chief in two local press organisations while studying Law in the University of Ibadan.
In his close-to-a-decade career in mainstream journalism, he has won numerous nominations and awards including the 2021 Investigative Report of the Year(Online) at the Wole Soyinka Centre For Investigative Journalism; Best Report, Telecommunications and ICT (2019), West Africa Media Excellence Awards; Nominee at the Africa Check Award 2021. He also won fellowships such as Dubawa 2022 Fact- Checking Fellowship, the British Council Future News Worldwide 2020, Africa Check 2019 Fact-Checking Fellow.
