TLDS Holds Handover, Swears in Babatimehin Peace-Led Administration

The Literary And Debating Society, University of Ibadan held its handover on the 14th of March 2025 at the SRC Chamber.

The outgoing executives, led by Ogonna Okere, began their administration on June 21, 2024, and served for a total of eight months and three weeks.

During his handover speech, the outgoing president, Ogonna Okere, expressed gratitude to his fellow executives and highlighted the achievements of his administration.

According to him, the administration built on past legacies, organizing a Freshers’ Oratory Competition, a public speaking bootcamp, and an Inter-Faculty Cancer Quiz.

They also introduced a Literary Competition, Reading Club, and Newsletter while excelling in external debates.

Lastly, he congratulated the incoming executives and urged them to be prepared to make sacrifices in service to the organization.

“To the incoming executives, I congratulate you and in the words of an Irish prayer, ‘may the road rise to meet you’ even as you begin this journey.’

I urge you to recognize that service is sacrifice and be ready to do just that for the good of the society. Generations past have laid a foundation, brought us this rich legacy and now the baton is being passed to you. It is your time, use it well.” He said.

The newly sworn in executives are:

Babatimehin Peace – President

Olatunji Oladoyin – Vice President

Mayowa Adekola – General Secretary

Filade Michael – Treasurer

Akinloye Goodness – Public Relations Officer.

In attendance were Senators of different constituencies that make up TLDS, The Staff Adviser, Prof Demola Lewis, amongst others.
