THE PENCILS

It struck my heart this afternoon as I stared at the pencil in my hand that there’s not much difference between us. As little or not too important a pencil may seem, it holds vital life lessons for me.

I realized that pencils work best when they are properly used. This boils down knowing oneself. A pencil will never attempt to function as an eraser.

A pencil is designed to make its mark wherever it is used. Being in a place is not enough, make your mark and leave your footprints on the sands of time.

The best part of a pencil is what is inside. Pencils come in many colors and many are used for advertising. There are different shapes for different styles. It is not so much about your external packaging but about what you carry inside of you.

Just like a pencil endures sharpening to be the best it can be, I ought to endure difficulties and hardships, knowing fully well that it will produce the better me. Not just a better me, but one that can withstand and overcome all odds.

Finally, a pencil reminds me that I am not infallible. Mistakes are bound to happen and inevitable, that is why they have erasers. Learning to say sorry should form the bedrock of one’s personality.
