Pointed, narrow, high heeled shoes could be very fitting and beautiful especially when worn on dresses that match well with the colour. Dinners, cocktail parties, wedding parties, birthday parties etc are gatherings where these can be well displayed. Ladies often like to walk graciously with their hips swinging from one side to the other with a slimmer and curvier shape and head held high to make them look like the belle of the ball.
These too high, too narrow and often too expensive wears can lead to foot trouble causing pains that may not end there but extends to the knees, hips, back and neck pain. For instance, high heels can throw the spine out of alignment. They can also cause blisters, corns, bunions and hammer toes.
The bunion is the most common feet trouble in which the big toe’s joint becomes angled to the outside of the foot causing the bone to stick out. Though bunions can be hereditary, they are mostly developed by wearing tight or pointy toes shoes mostly associated with high heels. Bunions range from being slightly painful to very painful ones that require surgery to be cured.
Funnily, flat shoes or flip-flops can also cause problems. These do not offer arch support and can lead to knee pain because the knees sag inwards, hips become problematic and other parts of the body will not be in great alignment.
Shoes with heels two inches or keep the ankles from being much higher than the ball of the foot and provide better comfort while round or square-toed styles are better on the feet than pointy ones. Some of the steps to be taken to prevent pains and to fit perfectly include:
Shoes should be chosen at the end of the day when feet are swollen.
Measure both feet before burying because foot size changes with age, gain and loss of weight and one foot tends to be larger than the other. Buy shoes that fit the larger foot.
Don’t buy shoes by number. Sizes vary between different styles and designers. Try shoes on and walk around to see if they’re comfortable.
Make sure there is about half an inch of space between your longest toe and the end of the toe box.
Don’t buy shoes that are too tight thinking they will stretch.
