THE INSANITY IN AFAS: TRUTH BE TOLD!

The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of people who are evil but because of the people who don’t do anything about it. —- Albert Einstein.

The beginning of the insanity that bedevils this association started during the electioneering that brought in this current dispensation. Ways were manipulated, orders deferred, permutations of all kind took place and finally, they all had their way unopposed even to the leadership of the House. Little did we know the woes that awaited us as an association when the Speaker and the President started the ill-friendship. They both lost their consciences and suddenly put on their evil gowns, even our Speaker began to talk and gradually his reputation fade away like the fate of the sun in the hands of the eclipse.

They decided to live in the same room in order to plan, rehearse and execute everything about AFAS before coming to the faculty. Indeed, the using of the president’s room as an official residence for the Speaker and his ‘friends’ is a bad omen for the growth of our dear association. We are now at the mercies of the inordinate decisions of these unscrupulous elements. They now turn themselves to Thespians and play on our collective intelligence by giving the role of the clown to the “WCC” in order for his welfare to be catered for from our collective wealth. We cannot be fooled by the public display of ignorance by the custodians of our collective wealth using some unsuspecting prey in achieving their devilish acts.

Truly, the administration is just about three months old but the atrocities committed so far are incomparable to that of a whole dispensation. Even though the perpetrators of this evil think they are wise, they do not know that their lopsidedness is there for everyone to see. They might project themselves as being lovers and men of people, but lo and behold, they are mammon! The first attacking strategy adopted by the president was to misfire during an electoral outing and thereafter threatened the existence of the press after condemning his gaffe. The Faculty Legislative Council hijacked the issue, took the wrong approach and the Speaker through his sentimental ‘vibration’ appealed to the emotions of the innocent and never inquisitive honourables. They threatened to delay the approval of budget of the Press, turn them to toothless dog and tame them to their suit. They almost achieved that if not for the never-say-never spirit of those involved.

Just like Buddha rightly said that ‘it is a man’s own mind, not his enemy or foe, that lures him to evil ways.’ It is very absurd that Mr. Speaker can dance to evil ways. Many people attested to the fact that he is a good man (maybe before now). Unlike what it used to be, the Speaker dominates the proceedings of the House, appeals to the emotions of the Honourables, puts them to his usual negative side and thereafter seeks their comments. Little wonder, the House is no longer respected because the leader of the House has sold out the integrity of the hallowed chamber for thirty pieces of silver. Anybody who is a regular observer of the House will agree with the fact that Rt. Hon. David knows nothing about how a legislative council should be run and never deserved to be the arrow head of a massive movement. Taking the main atrocities of the House into consideration, little will one scold the congressmen who err during the proceedings.

Because of the personal gains of Mr. Speaker, he decided to sell out the authority of the House to the President, an antecedent which will continue to speak against him. How illogical, absurd and subservient it is to hear that a budget has to get to the President before the House can sit on it! So, if the President says the House cannot sit on the budget of a constitutionally recognized organ of the association, what will the House do? Is it just descending on the mentality of our dear Speaker and his cohorts that they need to be briefed about the state of the account by the President before they can deliberate on a budget? Without mincing words, bad and immature politics by young minds is in display. The House never obtained a letter from his ‘Excellency’ alias the ‘man of the people’ before sitting on her budget. The President never considered the state of the account while presenting his budget, then why should other organs be made to pass through fire before the needful will be done?

Just like in the words of an unknown author “I define a ‘good person’ as somebody who is fully conscious of their own limitations. They know their strengths, but they also know their ‘shadow’- they know their weaknesses. In other words, they understand that there is no good without bad, good and evil are really one, but we have broken them up in our consciousness. We polarize them.” Surely, Rt. Hon. David Okanlawon doesn’t know his shadow, and thus, does not know his limitations.

How will one explain the disdain and unethical behavior of the friends of the Speaker? The House has now become a littered place of arrant nonsense, venue of display of thuggery and a theatre of insanity due to the too close friendship of the Speaker with his friends.  Our collective intelligence should be respected by the Speaker at all times. How do we explain what happened on the floor of the House on Friday, 12th June? The immature politics started from the agenda of the sitting. It was so illogical that the budget submitted to the House on Friday was honoured at the expense of other budgets which have been submitted two weeks earlier.

Not only that, the budget was supposed to be presented by the Assistant General Secretary who is the constitutional chairman of the centre but was presented by the President in a dubious way in connivance with the Speaker who is never skilled in the act of speech giving. We hope that one day our honourables will visit the signature forgery of a budget presented.  How absurd it is that the Speaker feigned ignorance on the budget which he prepared together with President. What a perfect script acting! To be factual with ourselves, both the Speaker and the President need to go and learn the act of being impersonal when it comes to official matters. AFASites still demand an explanation of how the money approved for Lead City Novelty Match was spent.

We need to face the reality, truth be told, let this madness stop at this point. Do not dupe us all in the name of service. Do not sweat, smile and befriend us to aggravate our sorrow. If we should continue on this path, posterity will judge us negatively, an end one should not pray for his foes.

In conclusion, our belief as an organ is that everyone referred to in this piece is not a sociopath and as such, see this as a way of getting out of the mess in which we find ourselves. This is not the time of threats, nor the time of making enmity but rather, a time to embrace peace, clear our ways, hold our heads high and build a collective future, if not, the tomorrow of our country is gone already. We hope the right step will be taken and the next thing will never be a summon letter for saying the truth against the power-that-be.

  1. I must confess, you people need to start being objective. He won’t stop being friends with his President because he is now the Speaker. Unless you’re being aggrieved by something (which i sense anyways), you’ll go less political in writing your articles. Insulting your leaders won’t make them change. If you’re not careful, you’ll lose readership and even your integrity.
