THE DUMMIES IN OUR UNION

I woke up on a morning and the first thing that comes to my mind was the people in our union. I analyse them, scrutinize them and I concluded that the good eggs in our union have been corrupted by the dummies amongst them. I can arguably say we don’t have any good egg in our union but we only have the fair ones; and none of them worth my praise. I cannot keep my pen in silence and expect positive change in my union, our union. I really want to say that the dummies in our unions are far greater than the fair ones, and this article goes to those dummies; if you are not a dummy yet, please never think of becoming one, and if already you are, we do not need you in our union! The spirit of unionism is not meant for dummies like those in power. It is saddening that the image builder of the union, the P.R.O who is meant to be disseminating information to UITES is busy drawing the plan of making our union a family “will”. Before the change in our P.R.O, I had rated him as one of the fair eggs the Students’ union will have, but my hope dashed when the duty of the P.R.O was been transferred to a former pressman. And I wonder in dismay on the question that, did we elect a Public Relations officer or the P.R.O selected his own P.R.O? UITES needs an answer to that. When the redemption team assumed office, they introduced the “SU blog “to us and we were happy that our P.R.O has brought information at its peak but the blog is dying prematurely. This is because we don’t have our P.R.O at work. A question to the P.R.O’s office would be ‘When would our union be informed?Because a union that is not informed will definitely be misinformed. And how can a misinformed union lead the intellectuals in the first and the best university? You promised us redemption, but we are seeing detention because we lack adequate information. Let our P.R.O wake up to his responsibilities and drive our union to a conclusive end. The office of the president of the union leaves me sitting on the fence, on whether to say they have proved being a dummy or a ‘smart man’. But I thank my star that I fell on aside after much thinking and I conclude that our president has been a ‘smart dummy’. He has proven to us that he is truly a hunter who has spooked the minds of people in thinking that he has a redemption agenda for our union. But I would conclude that our union would have been better if we didn’t know anything about the redemption agenda, because I have been forced to believe that the meaning of redemption in our union is “detention”. A question for the president;why have you decided to shun those that gave you power? I will want you to know that a river that forgets its source is at the verge of getting dry. Mr President Sir, I chose to refer you as a “smart dummy” because you have always hide under the pretence of not being a dummy. You have showed us you cannot redeem our union but please, for the sake of posterity, redeem your image. It will be sorrowful if we hear that our former student’s union president still remain a dummy after his years in the first and the best institution. Kill the dummy in you so you can make our union 1% better than you met. It is never too late to make changes. Represent the voice that make you their leader and not the voice of the leader you met when you became the leader, this is the only thing that can kill the dummy in you. The earlier the better Mr President! I hope I would not bore you again to say that the Student union Vice president and the Sport secretary has been suspended. I guess the Student Representative Council called my attention to this. But I have always wondered what our sport secretary has been doing after the events he managed to anchor at the SU week. I wouldn’t blame the SRC for suspending the sport secretary for misappropriation of funds, he would have been better if he his managing our union bicycle; and that’s if we have. What has happened to the promise of making more UITES sportsmen? To my suspended sport secretary, you should have learnt that there is more to your office than cycling all around campus. May be you need to sit down and think on what you can do for the union aside riding all around. We know you are skilled in riding, so let us see other good side of you, maybe when you are called back. To my suspended Vice President, I really got happy when the SRC displayed the dummy in you also. I wouldn’t want to blame you because I can see that you have learnt from the ‘smart dummy’ we elected as our union president. Like a common saying, the stubborn fly follow the corpse to the grave. UITES believed in you but your suspension has shattered the hope we had in you. You were not smart enough to worth me calling you a smart dummy, but you have joined the crew of the dummies we have in our union. There is still room for change, maybe when you are recalled and if you are not I am very sure you would have learnt you lesson. I will be prejudiced if I fail to say that our honourable have just woken up from their dummy sleep. We thank god for the wake-up. We hope to see more honourables waking up from their dummy- sleep. I personally hope to see more actions and right moves in the house, something better than a mere public speaking practice and a tutorial class on how to do a debate. Let us make our SRC what it ought to be. I stand for the truth, and wants the truth to prevail in the dealings of the union and this can only be achieved by the transparent SRC and this is the only thing that could drive our union further. Neglecting other offices doesn’t mean that they are not part of the dummies in our union, but I love arguing based on facts, I think other executives have played their game so well that the dummy in them is almost dying inside of them. I believe they also constitutes parts of the dummies we have in our union, but they are still on pending pen. I believe if truly they are not part of the dummies of our union our union ought to have developed better than it has been. However, if you truly are working assiduously on making our union better, more grease to your elbow, we can make the sky our starting point. PENBOY…
