The ‘200L SURVIVAL’ Football Competition Begins

The 2nd edition of the ‘200L Survival’ Football competition has commenced. The competition which is still ongoing started on the 8th of August and is believed to come to an end on the 20th or 22nd of August, 2021. 

The football competition was initiated in 2019 by Olawale Joshua Babatunde, a then 200level student of Sociology and the present faculty sport secretary of the Faculty of Social Sciences is an inter-faculty competition among 200level students. 

The competition features 24 teams are grouped into 8 groups with each group comprising of 3 teams. However, only one team from each of these 8 groups will ‘survive’ into the quarter finals. 

A few results have however been gathered from the matches played in the competition so far. 

The fifth day of the match which on August 12 was however significant as the competition recorded the highest number of goals scored in a single game. Psychology defeated History with 8 goals to Nil (0).

Furthermore, in a conversation with Olawale Joshua, he expressed his concern over the two particular factors militating against the growth of the 200L Survival competition, which are ‘publicity’ and ‘sponsorship/financing’. 

He said that the level of publicity for the competition is not enough and that there is still more to be done if the bell of the competition is to be rung in every corner of the University, in order for some department not to be left out with the claim of not being aware of such competition, just as it is the case in this ongoing edition of the competition.
