Students Protest: UI Management Debunks Electricity Memo, Make GES Textbook Optional

The University of Ibadan Management has debunked the electricity memo that made the news earlier in the week and also resolved that the General Studies (GES) Textbook is now optional for students.

“Management resolved that purchase of GES textbooks should not be a precondition for registration for the courses. It was also resolved that the purchase of the textbooks should be optional,” the counter-memo read in part.

This counter-memo is coming several hours after the management meeting with student leaders to resolve issues that led to the widespread students protest on Wednesday.

“The University Management wishes to state that the purported memorandum did not emanate from the University Management and should therefore be discountenanced.

“Members of the University Community are assured of regular and steady electricity supply across the campus as there is power supply from the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company of Nigeria (IBEDC),” the one on electricity clarified.
