The SRC has on the 15th of October, during the seventh emergency sitting, revised the budget for the Ivory Fest Awards under the 2025 Students’ Union Week.
During the sitting, it was clarified that the Students’ Union will sponsor only ten award categories from its own budget, even though there are twenty-eight nomination categories in total.
Discussions also covered awards meant for committee heads. Initially, seventeen committee heads were to receive recognition, but two were scrapped following a procedural issues attributed to the Vice President.
The affected committees are the Press Conference, Opening Ceremony and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire Committee, and the Carnival and Rally Committee.
Recall that the Council had absolved the Union of the cost of the Opening Ceremony — which comprised the Press Conference and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire — as well as the Carnival and Rally held on Saturday, October 11, and Sunday, October 12, respectively, citing a procedural breach on the part of the Students’ Union Vice President.
This was because these events had been held without any deliberation or approval from the students’ representative council as prescribed by Article XXV (1) of the Students’ Union Constitution, which states that the Council shall be the policy making body of the union.
The Council further noted that the awards for sponsors and partners would not be scrapped, but rather reviewed by the Audit Committee for proper accountability. It was also resolved that the two days removed from the Union Week schedule should not be reflected in the final financial report.
The reviewed budget was eventually adopted after due consideration by the Council.
