
Mbappe and Pogba scored for SFA as they defeated Nazi boys in the first game of the Sigma Chief’s League played on Monday, November 18th at the Old Football pitch.
Defending Champions, SFA began their title defense against the competition new boys with a strong line up that featured 11 of the University’s football team.
SFA’s Mbappe had the first shot of the game when his free kick from the left flank failed to trouble the goalkeeper. SFA skipper, Jimoh Ibrahim who was now pulling the strings for his side, sent in another free kick that failed to trouble the Nazi boys goalkeeper.
Ilori produced the game’s shot on target as his shot from the right hand side was saved by the goalkeeper in the center of goal.
After a period of SFA dominance, the breakthrough came via Mbappe who riffled home a long ranger from a sumptuous Ibrahim pass to give his team the lead.
Nazi boys had a few glimpses at goal but failed to trouble Mendy in the SFA goal. SFA’s sustained second half dominance paid off as Pogba rose highest to head home from Mbappe’s well taken free kick to double the lead.
Substitute kumi came on later in the second half for Nazi boys as they sought to get a consolation. Danny in Nazi boys’ attack failed to trouble Mendy after he was played in by Kumi via a lovely through ball.
Jimoh Ibrahim, who was having a dominant display at the heart of SFA’s midfield, forced a safe off the goal keeper after Mbappe found him at the edge of the box via a lofted pass. The defending champions controlled the game while keeping the new boys at arm’s length for the remainder of the game.
The referee signaled the end of the encounter as SFA ran out 2-0 winners over Nazi boys to progress into the next round. The defeat signalled the end of the road for Nazi boys after their very first Sigma Chief’s League match.
