The Governor of Oyo State, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi, has donated a sum of One million naira to the University of Ibadan Students’ Union, under the leadership of Mr. Ojo Oluwanifemi, to commemorate the Union’s week.
The donation was granted at the Oyo state government house during the visit of the members of the Union during the Union’s carnival, which was the first activity of the week.
On getting to the Secretariat, Students of University of Ibadan were delayed from gaining entry at first, until calls were made and the approval for their entry was granted.
At the office of the Governor, he was announced absent by the Secretary to the Oyo State government, who later addressed Uites.
While addressing members of the Union, the Students’ Union President, Mr. Ojo Oluwanifemi, said that member of the Union have come to do the usual by paying homage to the office of the Governor, as a way of commencing the Union’s week.
In his words, “We are here again, to tell our fathers that we have started. It is a tradition…..to get the gbemu.”
The Secretary to the Oyo State government, who spoke on behalf of the governor, appreciated the Union for always believing in the Oyo state government. He said that the governor was unavoidably absent but will donate a sum of a million naira to the Union, which is to be sent within the next 24 hours, from the declaration of the amount.
According to him, “I congratulate you on the marking of another Students’ Union week. Particularly under the leadership of my very good brother here (Nifemi).”
“I will on behalf of the governor, announce a donation of the sum of one million Naira…Within 24 hours, this money will be in your account”, he said.
