REVEALED: In November 2024, UI SU VP Aspirant Declared Intent for PRO, Violated Electoral Guidelines

Ajao Oluwabukolami Mariam, an aspirant vying for the Students Union Vice President in the upcoming elections, declared in November 2024, her intent to vie for the office of Public Relations Officer, UCJ can report.

Ajao Oluwabukolami Mariam, popularly known as BClassy, declared her Public Relations Officer aspiration via a widely circulated Whatsapp broadcast on November 15th, 2024. In this broadcast, the third year Faculty of Education student dubbed herself woman commando and encouraged the student community to support her “groundbreaking movement.”

BClassy’s declaration of intent and citation came 64 days before the official lift of ban on electioneering by the Students Union Electoral Commission. It also breached the electoral ban imposed by the SUEC on April 19th, 2024 as provided in chapter 8, section 28(1) of the University of Ibadan Students Union Constitution, 2013.

The Obafemi Awolowo Hall resident who earlier declared her intent to vie for the University of Ibadan Students Union Public Relations Officer has since veered off her “prominence agenda” course in pursuit of a “4 point agenda” in the race for Students Union Vice President.

Bclassy’s declaration for the position of the Students Union Public Relations Officers.

Responding to questions regarding her November 15th public declaration, Bclassy denied doing so. “I did not publicly declare for PRO, it was only an awareness,” she said. The SU VP aspirant was made aware of overwhelming evidence supporting the allegations made against her, to this, she had no rebuttal.

Ajao Oluwabukolami Mariam made this comment at the ongoing SU Press night and Presidential debate where aspirants into executive council offices are being quizzed on their plans for the student community.

The University of Ibadan student community are in the thick of an electioneering season that will climax with the Student Union Executive Council election on February 22nd, 2025 and the Students Union Students Representative Council election which will happen a week later.
