PYTP STUDENTS COMPLAIN ABOUT ANTI-TETANUS INJECTION -SAY IT IS LATE AND PAINFUL

Following the plans of the Practical Year Training Program (PYTP) officials for 2017/2018 session, the practical students have been vaccinated with the Anti-tetanus injection on Thursday, 24th May, 2018 by 12pm.

The Anti-tetanus injection was followed by complaints from students after some hours of enduring the pain. Some have complained about the late vaccination and how they would have been affected since the last twelve weeks they had finished the practicals without being injected with Anti-tetanus.

According to one of the students, “The idea of the injection is a very nice one, in fact, I appreciate the people that conceived the idea. But why is it that we had already spent more than 12 weeks on the farm before it was eventually administered?  With that I’d say the injection was not even given because we are cherished, but just to fulfil all righteousness, because in the space of 12 good weeks, what they actually intended to curb, if they truly cherished us, could have actually surfaced.”

“Personally, since Thursday that I received the injection, to be sincere, I still feel the pain till now, in fact, Thursday and Friday night were terrible as if I’ve never taken injection before. I couldn’t sleep well and I couldn’t carry things that are slightly heavy with the hand upon which the injection was given.”

Another student, Mofaramoluwa said, “I almost fell sick from the injection. I still don’t understand. It is still painful and my arm is just starting to be useful again. We should have gotten it before we started farming in that bush at all.”

This was along with Odunola who also commented that “Well I don’t think the injection was necessary any longer. We started work a long time ago and nothing was done. The pain is really annoying, since four days now, the pain is still there. And I’m very sure we all can’t complete the dose, so what’s the point?”

“The injection came at the wrong time in my own view. I feel it should have been administered before now, before we commenced work. I couldn’t use my left arm for a full day and half. It was that bad, and I can’t help but imagine the pain and the feeling for those from animal science that will still get to work, maybe in clearing and or tendering of animals. I just think their organization and timing is bad.” Grace said.

Dayo replied, “the Anti tetanus injection given to us was geared towards our benefit but it eventually became a burden. That’s because we were meant to have taken the injection long before we started our PYTP activities, at least one week before. It didn’t look appropriate to vaccinate long after we have done a lot of activities on the farm.”

“Also, it was not so proper to continue our PYTP activities after the injection because of the reaction. As it seems the injection caused havoc on most of us and it was difficult continuing with our daily activities. I feel there should have been a break for all of us after the vaccination.”

Meanwhile, the injection remains one or two doses to be done.
