The office of the Student Union Sport Secretary on Saturday 30th, August released an official training timetable as part of its efforts to revive the dying sport culture in the University of Ibadan student community.
This timetable covers 4 sports including Handball, Scrabble, Basketball and Table Tennis.
In the announcement made on the official Student Union WhatsApp Channel, the student body assured students of their freedom to participate in the activities with or without prior experience, saying, “….No worries if you have zero experience; we’ve got you covered with guidance and encouragement every step of the way.”
The announcement also revealed that the training sessions will cover both male and female categories with each category being allocated its own schedule.
Students can now train on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the various venues provided for each sport including the Handball court, New Flava in Nnamdi Azikwe Hall for Scrabble, the Awo Stadium Basketball court for basketball and the UI gym/Staff club for Table Tennis.
Here’s the full training schedule for all Sports:
Handball: Mondays & Wednesdays at 4:00pm at the UI Handball Court opposite Economics Building
Scrabble: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays & Saturdays at 4pm.
Basketball: Saturdays only, from 7:00am to 12:00pm.
Table Tennis: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays at 12:00pm and Saturdays at 9:00am.
The Sport Secretary, Victor Kolawole also encouraged the students to join their preferred teams in order to bring the spirit of competition alive on campus.
This innovation is coming days after the open letter written and signed by the UI Sport captains calling out the Management’s ignorance of Sports in the University ommunity.
