NEWS: UI College of Medicine Inducts 32 Physiotherapists

The College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, has inducted thirty-two (32) Physiotherapists into the medical profession on Tuesday, July 23.

The induction ceremony which was held at the Paul Hendrickse Lecture Theatre, was the second in the series of induction exercises for the graduating class of 2024 in the College of Medicine.

Speaking on behalf of UI’s Vice-Chancellor, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. S.O. Oyetade, advised the inductees to commit to the tenets of the profession, further admonishing them to be good ambassadors of the University.

“Commit yourself to the tenets of the profession. UI is noted for excellence and we don’t expect anything short of that from you, anywhere you go. The glory would be yours and the University’s,” he said.

The Provost, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Prof. Olayinka Omigbodun, while giving her address which focused on adversity and unity, charged the inductees to stand as a united force in their practice as medical professionals.

She explained that unity is very crucial to their success as physiotherapists and all the adversity they witnessed during their studentship has prepared them for today’s greatness.

“Unity is crucial. It gives strength and courage. Unity promotes teamwork and common goals. Never look down on adversity, embrace it. Adversity is not an enemy but a friend. Your teachers are proud of you,” she added.

The Registrar of, the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria, Prof. Ahmad Yusuf Rufai, while formally receiving the inductees into the Physiotherapy profession, charged them to keep to the ethics and etiquette of this field, after which he administered the Oath of induction on them.

Some of the important attendees include: President, Ibadan College of Medicine Alumni Association Worldwide, Prof. Dipo Otolorin; Head of Department, Physiotherapy, Prof. Adesola Adole; Dean, Faculty of Nursing, Prof. Prisca O. Adejumo; Dean, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Prof. Oyeronke Odunola; Dean, Faculty of Dentistry, Prof. J.O. Taiwo; Dean, Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences, Professor, Temidayo Ogundiran, elders in the Physioteraphy profession, among others.
