
The Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan Chapter has concluded its 4-weeks intensive training for campus journalists on Sunday, July 28th.
This intensive training, is part of the efforts of the current administration to build the capacites of campus journalists across local press organizations and to also invest in the next set of leaders in campus journalism.
The training started on July 4 with campus journalists in NUESA and by July 28th, the union has been able to cover all campus journalists, including those that at the University College Hospital (UCH) Axis.
Speaking on the training, the President of UCJUI, Tarre Tosanwunmi Elizabeth, emphasized that the point of the training was to groom our members to be better campus journalists, further appreciating Local Press Organizations Editors-in-Chief for contributing their quota to the success of the training.
“The purpose was to ensure that the training gets to the grassroots, that every member of the UCJ UI, inducted and intending alike, is deeply grounded in what is expected of them as campus journalists.
“I commend all our local press organisations for their efforts in getting venues, showing up in their numbers, and displaying enthusiasm in learning during the sessions,” she said.
Tijani Abdulkabeer, the Editor-in-Chief of the Union, also noted that the training was important to address the knowledge gap that currently exists and it had to span 4-weeks because the union intends to capture all campus journalists in the University of Ibadan.
“As we move forward to continue to discharge our responsibilities as Editors-in-Chief, be rest assured that the union is still very much in the business of building the next set of leaders in campus journalism and we would always be available to attend to necessary queries, challenges and also learn of ways to make the practice of campus journalism much easier for us,” he added.
Aside from the Editor-in-Chief, the training sessions were facilitated by top campus journalists some of which include: Ayeye Toluwalope, Deputy Editor, Indy Press; Ajise Isreal, Former UCJ News Editor; Peter Adeyemo, Deputy Editor (Preclinicals), UIMSA Press; Aduwo Ayodele, Indy Press Editor-in-Chief; Kelvin Omachonu, Former Editor-in-Chief, Indy Press; Joshua Aduragbemi, ZIK Press Editor-in-Chief; Olanshile Ogunrinu, Bello& AFAS Press Editor-in-Chief, among others.
