Philosophy began their defense of the Super Cup with an emphatic win to knock out the Department of Urban and Regional Planning football team in the opening match of the new edition of the Super Cup.
The match came into life in the fourth minute when Philosophy’s striker, Justice’s shot from a long range position hit the post and the rebound was saved by URP’s goalkeeper.
The defending champion continued to seek the opener and in the twelveth minute a free kick was awarded for the Plato Academy but it went straight into the hands of the URP’s goalkeeper to make a easy save. Philosophy came close to an opener again just right before the halftime when their point man, John’s intervention to a free kick went wide of the goal.
URP opened the second half with almost instant attempt to goal with a defense-breaking pass but was not properly converted by the striker and was easily saved by Philosophy’s goalkeeper.
In the 29th minute, John’s perfectly converted a through pass from the midfield into the back of the net to open the scoring for the Plato Academy. Within the space of three minutes, Philosophy doubled their lead when John’s pass into the goal area was easily tapped into the net by Owen.
John almost hit a brace with another goal immediately after the restart of the match but it was ruled offside. Philosophy continued to dominate the possession of ball which gave no chance for URP to find their feet in the match.
However, with two minutes to end of the match, URP had a chance to come back into the game but the striker sent the ball over the crossbar. The referee blew the final whistle in the 50th minute to end the match.
