Atelewo Group, an initiative that uplifts the Yoruba Culture held its inaugural Yoruba Party to celebrate the Yoruba New Year on Sunday, July 7.
This cultural event, which was held at Racecourse Amphitheatre, Adamasingba in Ibadan, brought together young people to celebrate Yoruba heritage with a vibrant mix of traditional and modern styles.
Attendees, who were predominantly youths dressed in a mix of traditional Yoruba attire and contemporary fashion, setting the tone for an event firmly rooted in the present while honoring the past.
Oredola Ibrahim, one of the founders of the group and the event organizer emphasized the festival’s aim to preserve Yoruba culture. “We organized Ajoyo Odun Tuntun not to copy Ojude Oba but to celebrate and keep alive the rich traditions of the Yoruba people.”
Attendees were also grouped into different groups namely: Egbe Onikoko; Egbe Oloti; Egbe Alaso, Egbe Ode; and Egbe Agbe to foster a sense of community among them.
