Welcome to the immoral desert
Political jungle
Where Law is a limbless ass
Order gone under
And the criminal is a hero
We learn nothing from history
And thus history repeats itself
As a mix of tragedy and farce
We are like that nanny goat tale
Whipped countless time
For a repeated offence
Buffeted by political banditry
Anesthetized by gross religiosity
Inundated by injustices
Which stink to the high heavens
Our sense have been dulled
Our nerves critically undone
Our sense of reality twisted
Apparently out of the theatre of absurdity
Time there was when millions stolen raised brow
Then came billions with its ceaseless itch
And now we talk in trillions
In a tall and tidy row
Corruption is the fastest –growing industry
Round and round in a cycle of shame
The bribed, the briber
All the same in a land so decrepit
Justice always denied
For ever delayed
Investigations without end
Reports without result
Recommendations without implementation
Crimes without punishment
‘Stealing is no longer corruption’
‘You thief ten kobo they put you for prison’
You thief ten million na patriotism
They go give you chieftaincy and national honour
This is the sorry order of our dear republic
A land so promised of a bright future
’If Nigeria does not kill Corruption,
Corruption will kill Nigeria’
It is no doubt the GCFR of Nigeria
Frightfully like an aggressive cancer,
Metastasized to the vital cells of our body politic,
And the debilitating symptoms are everywhere:
Perverted moral values,
Rig-prone electoral arrangement
Designed to throw up criminals in place of leaders,
Fraud-choked banking and finance system,
Irregular power supply,
Dry water-taps, death-trap roads,
Death-dispensing hospitals,
Progressively illiterate educational system,
Global notoriety,
And the list so endless
Let us begin to ask:
Why are a few Nigerians so rich
And the rest of us so poor?
Let us go beyond this
Engage in a massive civil action for change
Because only these can eliminate the canker-worm
Sucking the lifeblood of this bountifully endowed
But criminally misgoverned country
Let’s nip corruption in its bud before it has the chance of killing Nigeria.
