LIVE: “You have the opportunity to vote for the executives that you want” — UI VC, Professor Kayode Adebowale tells Uites

The Vice-Chancellor University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Adebowale has urged the students to exercise their rights and vote for the candidate of their choice ahead of the upcoming election. He made the statement at the ongoing manifesto night at NFLT, Faculty of Science.

Professor Adebowale advised students to vote for the candidates through a clean and clear process as the university has no intention in determining the outcome of the election.

“The advice I have for you is that you should produce the executive via a clean and clear democratic process. You have the right to vote for executive of your choice. I want you to watch very carefully and elect your leaders. The university is not interested in the election, except we have a security report on individual,” he said.

Professor Adebowale also commended the union body and the students for upholding normalcy in the face of various challenges and considering dialogue as the best form of solution.

“When I looked at all the other universities we have in Nigeria and I also considered the students and the union, I can submit that at the University of Ibadan, we have purposeful Students’ Union. Purposeful because since this administration came in, there have been a number of confrontations and difficult times,” he added.

It is good to give room for discussion and dialogue. If there is something I have benefited from this administration, it is dialogue.”

He also urged all the candidates to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship and accept the outcome of the election.

“Whether you win or not, you have already won for participating in a democratic process.”
