Professor Francis Egbokhare of the Department of Linguistics and African Studies, University of Ibadan, in conjunction with the Naija Language Network will launch a Nigerian Pidgin Dictionary and host a pidgin conference in October.
The conference titled “Naija na Helele (Naija is Incredible): Nigerian Pidgin in Global, Local, and In-Between Contexts,” will be held from October 2-5, 2024, at the ASUU Secretariat, University of Ibadan.
The conference will feature a keynote speech and paper presentations from Kofi Yakpo of Hong Kong University; Emmett Strikland from Paris Nanterre University; and Professor Christine Ofulue from the National Open University respectively.
The initiative also invites scholars, students (Africans & Non-Africans) and language enthusiasts to submit papers.

The major themes to be considered include research and education, regional integration, ideology, politics and propaganda, philosophy, faith and religion, globalism and nationalism, gender identity and sexualities, digital technology and artificial intelligence, linguistics, literature and media, Pidgin and Creoles in comparative paradigms, health and wellness, inclusion and exclusion, and business and economic development.
