
The Union of Campus Journalists (UCJ), University of Ibadan, has announced the final
shortlist for this year’s Sunday Oguntola Essay Competition.
The finalists for this 5th edition of the competition was announced in a statement signed by the Union’s President, Olanshile Ogunrinu.
“The topic for this year explores how Nigeria can overcome its identity crisis despite its many tribes, tongues, and territories and our campus journalists rose to the occasion. Their entries were thought-provoking, reflective, and captured the complexities of the Nigerian identity with striking clarity,” he said.
He also appreciated the sponsor, Mr. Sunday Oguntola, an alumnus and the Editorial Adviser of the Union for his continuous support through the sponsorship of this essay competition yearly.
“I, as well as every campus journalist, look forward to the unveiling of the top 3 at the October 11th 37th Induction Ceremony and Global Campus Journalism Summit 2.0,” He further noted.
Recall that entries for the completion opened in September with the topic “Tribe, Tongue, and Territory: Can Nigeria Truly Overcome Its Identity Crisis?

Winners would be announced and presented with prizes during the induction ceremony scheduled to hold on Saturday, October 11, 2025.
