JUST IN: UCJUI Sets to Hold 36th Induction in Style

The Union of Campus Journalists (UCJ), University of Ibadan, held its press conference and congress on November 23, 2024, focusing on upcoming events of the Union and the revitalization of local press organizations.

The press conference, which commenced at 9:55 am, was led by UCJ Public Relations Officer (PRO), Lanlehin Habib, who began with a prayer session. UCJ President, Tarre Tosanwunmi, delivered a significant address, unveiling the union’s upcoming events and highlighting the induction ceremony plans scheduled for November 30, 2024.

The ceremony, which will be attended by members of campus outfits from universities such as Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Ilorin, University of Lagos, Polytechnic Ibadan, and Olabisi Onabanjo University, promises to be a momentous occasion for the campus journalism community.

Tosanwunmi Tarre, the President announced an increase in the cash prizes for two prominent awards: the Sunday Oguntola Award and the Isaac Martin Best Inductee Award. The prize for the Sunday Oguntola Award was increased by ₦50,000, while the Isaac Martin Award for best inductee received a ₦70,000 boost. The increased prizes are expected to encourage greater competition and recognize excellence within the campus journalism community.

Vice President (Administration), Oyekola Muiz, reminded all attendees of the ongoing skill acquisition program, an integral part of the induction ceremony. The program aims to equip campus journalists with the necessary practical skills to excel in the media industry. UCJ Editor-in-Chief, Tijani AbdulKabeer, concluded the press conference by urging campus journalists to submit their entries for the upcoming magazine publication, emphasizing the union’s commitment to high-quality, creative content.
