JUST IN: ScienceL&D Dismisses Vice-President’s Membership after JawWar Loss to Social Sciences

The Faculty of Science Literary and Debating Society at the University of Ibadan has made a public release following their loss at Jawwar 2024: Rise of Legends during the preliminary round against the Faculty of The Social Sciences on November 28, 2024.

In the release, the society expressed disappointment over the circumstances surrounding the defeat, particularly the actions of the vice president, Oluwabukunmi Amoo. According to the statement, Amoo, who was initially slated to represent the faculty, informed the society’s president, Bayo Salaudeen, just a week prior to the event that she would instead be representing her hall constituency.

“It saddens us that after months of planning, preparation, and consultation by the president… all these were thwarted by the vice president of the society, Oluwabukunmi Amoo,” the statement reads.

The society revealed that Amoo’s sudden decision to step down from her assigned role left them scrambling for alternatives. Although a new speech was eventually prepared, the society faced significant challenges in finding suitable replacements. Left with limited options, Salaudeen decided to represent the faculty himself, delivering the speech without adequate preparation.

“This was the president’s first loss as a public speaker,” the release noted, adding that the decision to prioritize her hall constituency over the faculty brought “shame to the society.”

As a result of her actions, the society announced the revocation of Amoo’s membership and her title as vice president, effective November 29, 2024.

The Faculty of Science L&D Society, which previously won Jawwar in 2019, reiterated their commitment to upholding high standards despite this setback.
