JUST IN: JCIN UI Revokes Double Nominations for FOPA to Ensure Fairness

In a bid to maintain fairness in the selection process for the Fifteen Outstanding Persons Award (FOPA), the Junior Chamber International (JCI), University of Ibadan, has announced the revocation of double nominations for certain candidates.

Speaking during a virtual press conference, the organization confirmed that adjustments were made for individuals nominated in multiple categories.

Notably, Independence Hall Chairperson, Olaniyan Ibrahim Olalekan, and Zik Hall Chairperson, Fabiyi Oluwadamilare Caleb, who were both nominated in the Leadership and Hall Management categories, had their dual nominations revoked.

“This decision was made to ensure fairness and avoid any complications. We want every nominee to have a fair chance without any overlaps,” the Director II, Taiwo Odusote, explained emphasizing the organization’s commitment to an equitable and transparent process.

The revocation of double nominations follows the receipt of over 1,002 responses during the nomination phase, which ran from November 11 to November 15.

To ensure the credibility of the process, JCI mandated nominees to submit their CVs for verification and conducted thorough background checks. However, failure to send their CV eliminates them from the voting list.

Sylvia Obi, Director I for FOPA, reiterated that the award’s purpose is to honor exceptional students and alumni of the University of Ibadan. “The Fifteen Outstanding Persons Award is a platform to celebrate individuals who have demonstrated excellence in their various fields,” she said.

The press conference also shed light on the postponement of the award ceremony from December 2024 to February 2025. JCI explained that the delay was necessary to resolve nomination-related issues and to ensure a successful event.
