The second match of the Inter Hall Freshers’ Cup, Male Category, kicked off today, 6th of May, 2025 at the old SUB pitch.
The match, which was between The Great Independence Hall and Ransome-Kuti Hall followed an earlier game where Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall convincingly demolished Mellanby Hall in a thrilling 4–1 victory.
Independence Hall enjoyed buzzing support from the stands, greater than that of their opponents.
For the first 20 minutes, the Katangites dominated possession, launching multiple attempts on goal, all of which were denied by Kuti Hall’s impressive goalkeeper.
Kuti Hall responded with a promising attack before the first 25 minutes elapsed, but their shot was saved.
The attempt, however, seemed to boost their morale.
The first half ended goalless.
After the halftime break and a few substitutions, both teams resumed play.
The Katangites continued to create big chances but were once again thwarted by the goalkeeper.
About 10 minutes before full-time, Kuti Hall mounted intense pressure, creating several chances but still couldn’t break the deadlock.
The match ended in a goalless draw, leaving the Katangites visibly disappointed after dominating much of the game.
In a post-match interview, the Independent Hall coach said, “We tried our best, but their goalkeeper stopped all our chances. I also noticed some weaknesses in our wingers, which we’ll work on.”
The team captain echoed his coach’s sentiments, adding, “We really gave our all, but unfortunately, we couldn’t find the goal.”
Meanwhile, Kuti Hall’s coach commended his players, saying, “They did what I expected of them, but we faced some challenges in midfield. That’s something we’ll definitely work on.”
