University Health Services (UHS) of the University of Ibadan has reported a rise in patients experiencing constipation, pellet-like stool, and straining during defecation, due to dehydration.

In a bulletin titled “Health Advisory 2 To The University Community” released by the management on May 23, 2024, the university community has been urged to take proactive measures to address these health concerns.

Among the recommendations, students are advised to improve on fluid intake, avoid to the barest minimum ingestion of processed food, emphasizing water consumption, and ensure a sufficient daily intake of fruits and vegetables, with a recommended range of 3-5 portions per day.

The university management reiterates the importance of adhering to universal health and safety precautions as well. These include hand washing, and vaccination against preventable diseases such as Hepatitis B, Cervical Cancer, and COVID-19, with students encouraged to contact the University Health Services (UHS) for immunization.
